October 7 to November 7, 2011
Dear Carys,
You turned four months old, oh, about three weeks ago. And this letter is supposed to cover what happened between three and four months.
I think I can cover it when I say you drooled, pooped, spit up, and were ridiculously cute.
Really, three to four months was fairly low-key. Your sleep habits improved (we'll talk about this downward spiral they've taken recently with your five-month letter), you began to really tolerate tummy time, and you continued to charm the pants off us.
I spend way too much time every day thinking about how lucky I am and how cute you are (and you're smart! and make good decisions!). Your dad is head over heels for you and when you smile at him after waking up in the morning it makes his entire day.
My cousin - your, um....first cousin once removed - babysits you on Mondays and Tuesdays when I work. What about the other three days? There ARE NO OTHER THREE DAYS! Yes, that's right, I have joined the ranks of the measly hourly employees. I stepped down from my management position and started working just two days a week for 16 hours a week. On the one hand, no more office. On the other hand, jeans to work! On the first hand, no more working crazy hours! On the second hand, no more money. On the one hand, the hourly job can get repetitive. On the other hand, no more being responsible for other people! On the one hand....YOU, Carys. And there's really no other hand to that. Just Carys. Getting to spend so much more time with you is a huge blessing and I'm so lucky we can do that at this point in our lives. Samar loves watching you (though I don't think she loves getting up at 8am) and I hope you guys have the same kind of special bond that Samar and I had - and still have to this day. You should hear her talk to you or about you - her voice goes up about five octaves to a barely audible squeal. She definitely is head over heels for you, and it's so nice to have someone who loves you so much babysit you. She takes pictures like the one below and sends them to us or posts them on Facebook. Your dad looks forward to them so much!
We took a lot of walks! We had a true Indian summer and I loved every minute of it.
I did take you to the park for the first time and in impulse plopped you in the swing, which was clearly several months beyond your age range...but I threw the baby carrier around your torso and you sat up like a champ....and LOVED it. You started uncertain but by the end were giggling uncontrollably.
We got you some baby headphones (the sound reducer type) so we could take you to things like movies at your aunt's (she turns the sound WAY up) and fireworks, and your uncle decided you needed to accessorize them with sunglasses.
We took a second trip to Dubuque with my aunts Mary Jo (one of your many middle name namesakes) and Carolyn (another honoree - this time with the same first and middle initials). It wasn't quite as easy as it was when you were a newborn - you didn't immediately fall asleep in the car and wanted to be entertained. Entertaining a four month old for a six hour road trip? Not as easy as it might seem. It was cold and rainy, but true to the Nussrallah spirit, we went on walks anyway.
We also road on the world's shortest, steepest railway - which is fitting, since when I was pregnant with you I rode on the world's LONGEST, steepest railway in Australia.
We were there over Halloween weekend and made the drive back Halloween night, so you spent your first Halloween on the road. During the day, I put you in a Halloween bib.
That didn't feel like enough, so the next day I faked it and put you in your Mogwai/Gremlin/Gizmo costume (your dad's idea) anyway.
During Mary Jo's visit we also took you to your first hockey game, which you LOVED. I thought you might be startled by the loud noises and darkness, but you were completely enthralled...until the third period, when you zonked out despite the noise all around you.
This is a quick letter, partly because....well, if I'm being honest it's because I don't remember enough to talk about it. Everything I can think of needs to go in your five month letter. Let's not get started on how behind I am on weekly pictures. Mom fail.
I love you forever and always!
Mom
Oh wow, your little one is so absolutely precious. I nanny for a 3 month old baby girl right now, and the cuteness is unbearable :)

I would LOVE to know where you found the Mogwai/Gizmo costume! My little one is 3 months old and we call her Mogwai all the time because of the funny baby noises she makes. What a cute way to celebrate Halloween!
