The many faces of Carys

Someday I plan on having time to write out her birth story and actually write about her instead of just sharing pictures from my phone of her next to maxi pads. Maybe when this bout of mastitis (google it, AKA "please cut my boob off") is over and I can remove the cabbage and raw potato slices from my bra.

P.S. I didn't actually match the Boppy to the blog but let's pretend I'm that stylish and organized and it was on purpose.

The reality of post-partum life

Baby versus post-partum pad.

This is the stuff no one tells you. I'm telling you: you could use this thing to dam a small river.

The Last Picture

This was the last non-hospital picture of me pregnant, I think. I was absolutely miserable here.

Carys Josephine

First, to answer the burning question: yes, we went with Carys Josephine. We were (and still are) slightly in love with the idea of the nickname "Ellie Jo" (to match Chris's sister Ana Jo, his aunt Nancy Jo, and my aunt Mary Jo) but everyone had thought of her as Carys for so long that we just had to stick with it.  I think. Ha!

As it is, she can still be Cary Jo. I just wish I could hand out cards that say, "Yes, this is a real name. We didn't make it up. It's not a uneek spelling; the "Y" belongs there. No, it's not CARROTS. I did not name my daughter CARROTS."

I am exhausted but over the moon. Not sore anymore, though the first day was pretty painful around about 4am when they had me stand for the first time. And then again a few hours later when I had to walk the halls. And then again a few hours later when I had to shower. But other than that it's been fairly great recovery.  Having gone through the TAC surgery helped a lot in knowing what to expect. I'd possibly go so far as to say this is even easier thanks to the tiny human that's hanging out in our room.

Yeah, I think she's pretty cute. Full birth story coming soon (though really, it was a scheduled c-section that went off without a hitch...can it be THAT interesting?).

Worth a thousand words

She's here!

Baby girl Hanlon arrived at 9:16 am on 7/7/11 weighing 9 pounds even and measuring 20 3/4 inches long. She's perfect and we are so in love and, of course, think she's the cutest thing since sliced bread. No official name yet but probably Carys (rhymes with Paris; original Welsh spelling and comes from the word for 'love') Josephine. However, a dark horse of Eliana Jo has entered the ring and cast the tiniest shadow of doubt, so we'll see......

Nope, still waiting.

No Fourth of July baby for us, the little bastard. No amount of fireworks booming directly in front of her could convince her that it's a fun, bright, sparkly world out here and she should come join us.

If she decides to come today I'll be pissed because it's the one day my doctor isn't working this week. She was even on call yesterday, so it would have been perfect. Now that she DIDN'T come on my preferred timetable (shocker) she'd damn well better wait until Thursday! I don't want some unknown doctor all up in my junk...and I mean REALLY up in my junk - like intestines and bladder and inside me and shit.

4th of July Belly

I am such a nerd with my glow sticks.

This was from a couple days ago. I. am. HUGE.
